What is the APHON Certification?

The Pediatric Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Program is designed to provide nurses with the theoretical knowledge and key principles needed to safely care for children and adolescents receiving chemotherapy or biotherapy. Nurses who have successfully completed the APHON Pediatric Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Providers program will have been provided with information about the highest standards and practices in pediatric chemotherapy and biotherapy.

Participants receive instruction on:

  • The difference between adult and pediatric cancers

  • Clinical trials

  • Chemotherapy and biotherapy agents and administration

  • Side effects

  • Toxicity and symptom management

  • Psychosocial issues

  • Legal and ethical issues

Successful APHON certification will allow RN to administer initiate and administer chemotherapy/biotherapy on 11 Central.


Criteria for Applying for Exam

  1. A current, unencumbered U.S. RN license license is required - there are no minimum time requirements


COST

Total cost of the program is varies depending on whether you attend virtual or in person. If you are a full time employee and have worked at MSCH for 6 months you can be reimbursed by submitting your receipt and post-exam certification through Concur.

Additionally, one professional development may be used to attend.
